Sports Injuries

Sports Injuries

We all enjoy sport, whether it be watching or participating but often we suffer sports injuries. Here at South Yorkshire Physiotherapy Centre we have experienced clinicians, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, with the knowledge and skills to deal with any injuries you may endure whether these are sports injuries or suffered at home or work.

Early physiotherapy can have a significant effect on speeding up your recovery from injury. This is particularly important if you are unable to work because of your symptoms. We not only try to resolve your problem but can also offer sports specific rehabilitation to prevent further injuries in the future and get you back to playing as soon as possible.

Many of our physiotherapists have experience of playing sport at a high level and utilise their experience and knowledge to give you the most appropriate form of treatment for your problem. We are happy to treat clients of all ages and sporting abilities and offer everyone the same level of care whether you are a professional athlete or just enjoy a game with your friends once a week.

Common Sports Injuries we treat include:

  • Ligament injuries
  • Tendon injuries
  • Dislocations
  • Rupture
  • Bursitis
  • Biomechanical issues
  • Muscle strains
  • Overs use injuries
  • Subluxations
  • Swollen ankles
  • Broken bones
  • Following surgery

Treatment of sports injuries can involve specific exercise programmes, electrotherapy, manual techniques, biomechanical assessment, postural correction, Pilates, hydrotherapy and acupuncture where appropriate.

In the unusual event that physiotherapy is not the answer to your condition then your experienced physiotherapist will advise you of the best way forward. This may be a referral back to your GP or a recommendation to see an appropriate specialist i.e Orthopaedic Consultant or Neurologist. As we offer personalised care to all our clients we feel we can offer timely advice on when other therapeutic interventions may be more appropriate to manage your condition.
